Harestone

Harestone is the leafy residential area climbing the hill east of the Valley. Large detached houses on generous plots, many from the interwar period, set back from tree-lined roads. Harestone Valley Road leads up towards the woods and Happy Valley, which is one of the best spots for walking in this part of Surrey. Caterham School (private) is here. It feels noticeably more affluent and quiet than the Valley floor. The trade-off is that you are a steep walk from the shops and station, so most people drive down for everything.
