Chelmer Village is a large planned estate from the 1970s and 80s on the eastern side of Chelmsford. It has its own retail park with a Tesco, gym, and a handful of other shops, so you can do most errands without leaving. The houses are typical of that era: neat semis and detached houses with garages, arranged around cul-de-sacs. There's a community feel because it was designed as a self-contained neighbourhood. The River Chelmer runs along the edge and there's good access to the towpath for walks. Popular with families who want something affordable and practical without being right in town.
