Cookham village has a proper high street with a few good pubs, a deli, a butcher, and the Stanley Spencer Gallery pulling in visitors year round. The Moor is a large common that floods in winter but is lovely the rest of the year. Housing is a mix of period cottages in the centre, larger Edwardian and inter-war houses on the roads heading towards Cookham Dean, and some newer development. Cookham Rise, closer to the station, is slightly more suburban and a bit more affordable but still firmly in the expensive bracket. The Elizabeth line station at Cookham gives you a direct run into Paddington via Maidenhead, which was a genuine game changer for commuters. The primary school is well regarded. Cookham Dean up the hill is even quieter and more rural, with bigger houses and bigger price tags. Winter Hill walks and the Thames Path are on the doorstep. It is a village that actually functions as one, which is rarer than you would think in this part of the world.
