Four small villages strung along lanes in the Low Weald between Tonbridge and Maidstone. East Peckham is the largest, with a primary school, a few shops, and a history of flooding when the Medway rises. West Peckham is barely a hamlet, just a handful of houses and The Swan on the Green. Mereworth is tucked away behind its extraordinary Palladian castle and feels quietly well-off. Wateringbury sits on the Medway and has the only station, on the slow Medway Valley line into Maidstone East. Housing is a mix of period cottages, converted oasts, and newer estates in East Peckham. You are properly in the countryside here but it is not a quick commute anywhere.
