West Malling's High Street is genuinely good. It has a proper butcher, a greengrocer, a few decent pubs including the Lobster Pot, cafes, and a weekly farmers market. The town is small enough that everyone knows each other but big enough to feel like a real place. Housing around the old town is mostly period, with some nice Georgian and Victorian frontages along the High Street and surrounding streets. East Malling is more scattered and residential, with the old research station (now partly redeveloped) and a quieter feel. Offham is a tiny village just north with a green and a couple of hundred houses. West Malling station is the transport link, and the M20 is close for driving. St Leonard's Tower and the abbey ruins give the town a sense of history that the newer developments nearby completely lack.
