Ewell Village is the nicest part of the borough for character. The spring pond on the Hogsmill River, the medieval church tower, and the row of shops along the High Street give it a proper village centre. There are a couple of decent pubs and cafes, an antique shop or two, and Bourne Hall with its distinctive mushroom-shaped roof hosts local events. Housing around the village core includes some older period cottages alongside the more typical 1930s stock. It feels genuinely Surrey in a way that most of the borough's suburbs don't quite manage.
