Merrow is a residential suburb east of the town centre, spread along the lower slopes of the North Downs. It has a proper village feel with a church, a pub (the Horse and Groom), a small green, and a row of shops. The housing stock is mainly 1930s semis and detached houses with decent-sized gardens. Merrow Downs above the village are chalk grassland and feel genuinely rural. It's popular with families who want Guildford's schools and station access without living in the centre. The downside is that the A25 runs through and can be busy.
