The Hoxton Street end of Hoxton has a different feel from the square. The market runs on Saturdays, a proper East End street market that pre-dates the gentrification by decades. Council estates line much of the street. It borders Islington's New North Road and feels slightly separate from the Shoreditch side. There are a few old-school cafes and pubs alongside the newer arrivals. It's less polished than Hoxton Square, which is precisely why some people prefer it.
