Two proper Kent villages sitting between Gravesend and Rochester, separated by farmland and marshes. Higham has a small station on the North Kent line but the service is slow and infrequent, so most people drive to Gravesend or Strood instead. Shorne is the prettier of the two, with a village green, a pub, and Shorne Country Park on the doorstep. Housing is a mix of older cottages, some large detached places, and a scattering of newer builds. It feels genuinely rural despite being minutes from the A2. Families like it for the space and the countryside, but you need a car for basically everything.
