Ashingdon sits up on a ridge to the east of Hockley, best known for St Andrew's church which marks the site of the 1016 battle between Edmund Ironside and Canute. It is a residential spread of post-war housing with some newer builds, connected to Hockley along the B1013. There is very little in the way of shops or amenities locally, so you rely on Hockley or Rochford for day-to-day needs. The higher ground gives some open views across the Crouch valley. It suits people who want quiet above everything else and don't mind driving.
