Hungerford itself has a long high street with antique shops, a few decent pubs, and a Co-op. The Kennet and Avon Canal runs through town and the towpath is well used by walkers and cyclists. There is a station on the GWR line to Paddington, which makes it commutable if you do not mind an hour on the train. Kintbury is a smaller village just east along the canal with its own station, a village pub, and not much else, which is the point. Housing in Hungerford is a mix of older stone and brick properties in the centre with some newer estates on the edges. It is the kind of place where people know each other and the Hocktide festival every spring is taken seriously. Not cheap for what it is, but quieter and more affordable than the Berkshire towns closer to London.
