Speen is on the western edge of Newbury and has held on to some village character despite being absorbed into the town. The old village core around the church and the pub still feels distinct. Housing ranges from cottages and older properties in the village centre to 1970s and 80s estates further out. Speen Moors is a nice local walk along the River Lambourn. It is one of the parts of Newbury where people say they live in Speen rather than Newbury, which tells you something about the sense of identity.
