Knaphill is a large village on the western side of Woking, centred on a long high street that runs along the ridge above the Basingstoke Canal. There is a decent parade of shops including a Co-op, takeaways, a couple of pubs, and a pharmacy, enough that you do not need to go into Woking town centre for basics. The housing is a real mix. Some Victorian and Edwardian cottages near the village centre, a lot of 1930s semis and detached places further out, and newer estates towards Brookwood and Bisley. Brookwood station is the closest for rail commuters but many people drive the short distance to Woking for the fast Waterloo service. Knaphill Lower School and the junior school feed into Winston Churchill secondary, which draws from across the area. Brookwood Cemetery and the heathland towards Pirbright give access to good walking, and the canal towpath is popular with runners and cyclists. It has a quiet, settled, slightly unglamorous feel. Families move here because the houses are bigger and cheaper than in central Woking, and the village centre gives it just enough identity to not feel like a generic estate.
