Two Hertfordshire villages that still feel properly rural. Codicote has a long high street with a village green, a few pubs, a Co-op, and enough going on that you don't need to leave for everyday bits. The housing is a mix of older cottages around the centre and some 1960s-70s infill further out. Kimpton is smaller and quieter, with a pretty centre around the church and a strong community. Both villages have popular primary schools and the kind of family life that revolves around brownies, football clubs, and the village hall. You need a car for everything beyond basics, and most commuters drive to Stevenage or Welwyn for the train.
