SS9 1 / SS9 2 / SS9 3
This is the heart of Leigh, covering the Broadway, the station, and the streets sloping down towards Old Leigh and the estuary. The Broadway is the star, lined with independents, coffee shops, and a couple of proper pubs. Old Leigh at the bottom of the hill has the cockle sheds, The Crooked Billet, and The Peter Boat, and the views out across the Thames estuary towards Kent. Housing ranges from Victorian and Edwardian terraces near the seafront to 1930s semis further back. It is the most expensive part of Southend by a comfortable margin. Two stations serve this ward: Leigh-on-Sea and Chalkwell, both on the c2c line.
