Maldon South takes in the Hythe, which is the most distinctive part of Maldon: a waterfront area with a promenade that follows the river, a small yacht harbour and the Maldon Yacht Club giving it a maritime character that the rest of the town only hints at. The Hythe has a short stretch of waterside pubs and cafes that draw visitors at weekends and in summer, though it does not have a formal high street. Properties near the waterfront tend to be more sought after and can command a premium, but the area as a whole is not expensive by southeast England standards. This is the part of Maldon that people who chose the town specifically because of its estuary setting tend to live. Schools in the south are good and the Promenade Park is a genuine local asset rather than a token green space.
