Cliftonville West is where Margate's regeneration has genuinely taken hold. The streets nearest the Old Town and the seafront have filled up with creative types, young families from London, and small businesses. There are decent cafes and independent shops, and the Lido and Walpole Bay tidal pool are on the doorstep. Housing is mostly big Victorian and Edwardian terraces and villas, some beautifully restored, some still needing work. It still sits next to much more deprived streets, so the contrast can be stark. But if you want the arty Margate life with a sea view, this is where most people look first.
