The town wraps around the Thames crossing, with the high street running from All Saints Church down towards the river. West Street and the streets off it have some of the best period houses. Closer to the station on the eastern side, things are slightly more mixed with some 1960s and 70s development. Quarry Wood and Winter Hill are walkable from town for proper Chilterns countryside. The Compleat Angler hotel and the rowing clubs give the riverside stretch a particular character. Daily life works well here, with a Waitrose, good pubs, a farmers' market, and enough shops that you are not constantly driving to High Wycombe or Maidenhead. Schools are a draw, particularly Borlase and Holy Trinity primary. It is not cheap, and the branch line to Maidenhead adds time to the commute, but people who live here tend to stay.
