Melbourn is the largest village in this cluster and the most self-contained. The High Street has a Co-op, a fish and chip shop, a few takeaways, and The Black Bull and The Dolphin pubs. It is not a destination high street but it covers the everyday basics. Housing is a real mix, from older village cottages near the church to 1970s estates and newer builds on the south side. The primary school, Melbourn Village College for secondary, and the proximity of the big science parks along the A10 corridor mean a lot of families with research or tech jobs end up here. It still feels like a village but it is bigger and busier than the neighbours.
