The town centre area, named after the remains of James I's hunting palace. This is where you find the older buildings, the high street, the market, and the famous Royston Cave with its medieval carvings. The housing closest to the centre includes period cottages, some Georgian frontages along the high street, and Victorian terraces on the streets behind. The station is here, which makes it the most convenient part of town for commuters. It has the most character of any part of Royston, though the centre is small enough that you can walk across it in ten minutes.
