Orsett is a proper Essex village that feels like it belongs in a different postcode from the rest of Thurrock. There is a village green with a pond, a medieval church, and Orsett Hall sitting at the edge of the village doing weddings and Sunday lunches. Housing around the green is older, a mix of period cottages and Georgian and Victorian houses, with some later infill on the fringes. It is noticeably more affluent and quieter than Grays or Tilbury just down the road. The A13 runs nearby but the village is set back from it, so you get the road access without the noise. West Horndon and Stanford-le-Hope are the nearest stations, neither particularly quick into London. You are driving for most things, but people who live here accept that because the trade-off is a genuine rural village within Thurrock's boundaries.
