Otford is a proper village with a pond, a green, the ruins of an Archbishop's Palace, and a genuine centre where people stop and talk. The high street has a butcher, a couple of cafes, and a convenience store. It feels well kept without being twee. The station is on the line down to Sevenoaks and up to London Bridge and Victoria, which makes it popular with commuters who want a village life rather than a suburban one. Housing is mostly detached and semi-detached, a mix of periods, nothing cheap. Families like it for the primary school and the fact that kids can actually play out safely. The North Downs Way runs right past the village.
