Pangbourne sits where the Pang meets the Thames and has a proper village centre with independent shops, a couple of pubs, and places to eat. The houses range from Victorian villas near the river to newer builds on the edges. Pangbourne station gives you a direct train to Reading in about ten minutes, and Paddington from there, which is a big part of the appeal. The river meadows and walks along the Thames Path are a genuine daily amenity, not just a weekend thing. Pangbourne College (independent) is nearby but most families use the local primary and then secondary schools in Theale or Reading. It is comfortable and well-heeled without being pretentious.
