Caversham is where Reading's middle classes have settled for decades. Cross the bridge over the Thames and you're in a different world from the town centre. Proper high street with independent shops, cafes, a butcher, a deli. Edwardian and 1930s housing on tree-lined streets. Christchurch Meadows along the river is lovely, and kids swim in the Thames in summer. Primary schools are popular. The catch is the bridge bottleneck into town, which means traffic is grim at rush hour. No station of its own, so you're driving or busing to Reading station.
