Reigate

Reigate town centre punches above its weight for a Surrey commuter town. Bell Street and the High Street have a strong mix of independent shops, delis, wine bars and restaurants alongside the inevitable chains. The Priory Park and castle grounds sit right above the centre, and Reigate Hill gives you proper North Downs walking without driving anywhere. The housing close to the centre is handsome period stock, Victorian and Edwardian, with larger detached houses on the roads heading south towards the Downs. Reigate station runs Southern services into London Bridge and Victoria in around 40 minutes. It attracts families with money who want a proper town with a life of its own rather than a dormitory. Schools are a big part of the appeal, with several well-regarded primaries and Reigate Grammar nearby.
