The Isle of Oxney is a low ridge rising out of the Romney Marsh levels, historically a genuine island before the marshes were drained. Wittersham is the main village, with a pub and a primary school but not much else. The landscape is striking in a flat, open way, with long views across the levels towards Rye. Getting anywhere takes time since you are reliant on narrow country lanes and the nearest town of any size is Tenterden. It suits people who want genuine rural quiet and do not mind the isolation.
