Spencers Wood is a linear village along the B3349 with a mix of older houses and some newer infill. There is a small local centre with a Co-op, a pub, and a few other bits. Swallowfield is further south and properly rural, with a lovely church and the feel of a real village. Both are popular with families who want to be near Reading without living in it. You need a car for everything, but the trade-off is more space and genuinely quiet streets. The Lambs Lane area connects through to Three Mile Cross.
