Kemsley was built as a model village for workers at the Bowaters paper mill in the 1920s. The layout still has that planned, Garden City feel with curving streets and green spaces. The mill site is now partly industrial, partly redeveloped. Kemsley is self-contained with its own shops, a primary school, and a community feel that other parts of Sittingbourne lack. It is not fancy but it has more character than you would expect.
