Elephant has been in a state of perpetual regeneration for years. The shopping centre is gone, replaced by towers and a new town square. Strata Tower is the landmark. The area is a massive transport hub with Northern and Bakerloo lines, plus loads of bus routes. The old Elephant was properly gritty, full of Latin American restaurants and the indoor market. Some of that character has survived but a lot has been displaced by the new development. The new flats are expensive, the remaining council stock is not. It is a place of sharp contrasts and it will take years to settle into whatever it is becoming.
