Steyning has one of the best small-town high streets in Sussex. A butchers, a greengrocers, several pubs, independent shops, and a bookshop. The town has real character, with timber-framed buildings and a church that dates back to Saxon times. Steyning Grammar School is well regarded and draws families. The Downs loom behind the town, with footpaths up onto the ridgeway. Ashurst is a small hamlet to the south, quiet and scattered. Steyning is not cheap, and the lack of a station means you're driving to Shoreham for trains. Most people who live here wouldn't swap it.
