Sutton town centre is the commercial heart of the borough. The high street has the usual chains plus a decent indoor market. Sutton station is a major hub with Thameslink to London Bridge, City, and King's Cross. There has been significant development in recent years, with new flats replacing some of the older retail space. The civic centre area around the library and Trinity Square has been improved. It's not pretty or characterful but it works as a local centre. Living in the centre means flats rather than houses, and it's busier and noisier than the surrounding suburbs.
