Tilbury St Chads

St Chads is the eastern side of Tilbury, a largely residential area of post-war housing between the railway line and the marshes. It is quieter than the riverside end and slightly less affected by port traffic, though the industrial presence is still noticeable. There is a primary school and a few local amenities but most daily shopping means going into Tilbury centre or driving to Grays. East Tilbury and the newer Bata estate are neighbours. It is the sort of place where you know your neighbours and the housing costs are about as low as you will find anywhere within commuting distance of London.
