E1 6
Spitalfields is the area around the old market, right on the edge of the City. The Georgian townhouses on Fournier Street and Elder Street are some of the finest in London, once home to Huguenot silk weavers, then the Jewish garment trade, then Bangladeshi families, now largely gentrified. The market itself is a tourist draw with food stalls and independent traders. Commercial Street is busy and noisy. Liverpool Street station is a five-minute walk, which makes it absurdly well-connected. Property here is expensive and it feels more like an extension of the City than the East End these days.
