Balham has been solidly gentrified for over a decade now. The high street has a Gail's, a couple of decent pubs, and enough independent restaurants to keep things interesting. Victorian terraces on the side streets, mostly converted into flats but some still whole houses that go for serious money. Northern line into the City is quick and the Overground is useful for getting across to Clapham Junction. Balham market on a Saturday is genuinely good. It is young families and professionals, and it knows exactly what it is.
