Chalkwell

Chalkwell is the nicer end of Westcliff, bordering Leigh-on-Sea to the west. The streets near the seafront and Chalkwell Park have big Edwardian and 1930s houses with sea views, and they attract families who want the Leigh lifestyle at slightly less painful prices. Chalkwell station is on the c2c line and the park itself is genuinely good, with tennis courts, a bowling green, and a proper playground. The esplanade walk from Chalkwell to Old Leigh is one of the best stretches of the whole Essex coast. It has a settled, slightly middle-class feel without the self-conscious quaintness of Leigh Broadway.
