The town itself centres on the market square and Church Street, with a cluster of pubs, independent shops, and a couple of decent places to eat. Housing is a mix of period properties around the centre, Victorian and Edwardian terraces on the streets leading out, and more modern estates on the edges. Ampthill Great Park is the real draw, a large open parkland with mature trees, walking paths, and views south towards the Greensand Ridge. The Alameda is a smaller wooded walk closer to town. Families dominate and the local lower schools have good reputations. You need Flitwick station for the train, about a 5 minute drive or a reasonable cycle. It is not cheap by Bedfordshire standards but it is still a lot less than comparable towns in Hertfordshire or Buckinghamshire.
