Bicknacre is a small Essex village about four miles southeast of Chelmsford, sitting between Danbury and Woodham Ferrers. Housing is mostly detached and semi-detached, the sort of quiet rural spot where people settle because they want space and a garden without paying Danbury prices. The nearest stations are South Woodham Ferrers or Chelmsford, so it is firmly car-dependent. Families who want village life on a slightly more realistic budget than the posher villages nearby tend to end up here.
