Billingshurst

The town centre has a proper high street with a range of independents and a small market. Housing is a mix of period properties near the centre, 1930s semis spreading out, and newer estates on the fringes. The station is walkable from most of town, with services to London Victoria via Horsham in about 80 minutes. Schools include Billingshurst Primary and The Weald secondary, both with decent reputations. It's the sort of place people move to for space and quiet rather than excitement. The surrounding countryside is proper Sussex, rolling and green. You'll need a car for anything beyond basics.
