Large inter-war council estate spread across the hills northeast of the station. The university campus is here, which brings some life and a bus service. Housing is mostly pebble-dash semis and terraces, affordable by Brighton standards. It has a reputation that's worse than the reality, but it's fair to say it lacks the polish of areas closer to the sea. The Wild Park nature reserve is a genuine asset. Good if you need space on a budget and don't mind being away from the centre.
