Rottingdean & West Saltdean

Rottingdean is a genuine village that Brighton swallowed. It still has a pond, a windmill, a proper high street with a butcher and a bookshop, and Kipling's old house. The cliffs and undercliff walk are right there. West Saltdean is more standard 1930s suburban housing further along the coast. The whole area feels separate from Brighton proper, which is the point for most people who live here. The bus into town takes a while. If you want the seaside life without the Brighton chaos, this is it.
