Woodingdean is a 1950s estate built in a dip in the Downs on the eastern edge of Brighton. It feels like a separate small town rather than part of the city. Housing is mostly semis and bungalows with gardens, and it's one of the more affordable parts of Brighton for that reason. There's a small parade of shops but nothing special. The surrounding downland is the real draw if you like walking. Getting into central Brighton means driving or a slow bus. It suits people who want quiet and don't mind the isolation.
