Two large villages south of Reading that get lumped together but feel quite different. Mortimer has more of a village centre with a decent pub, a Co-op, and the Willink secondary school right there. Burghfield is more spread out, with Burghfield Common being the bit most people mean when they say Burghfield. Lots of 1960s and 70s housing, some newer estates, and a fair amount of older detached places on larger plots. Mortimer station gets you into Reading in about 15 minutes, which is the main commute route. People move here for the space and the schools without paying Pangbourne or Goring prices. It is very car-dependent though, especially around Burghfield. The AWE site at Aldermaston is the other big local employer besides Reading's business parks.
