The town centre itself, combining the main shopping and services with surrounding residential streets. The Pentagon and the regenerated waterfront near the former dockyard give this area the most urban energy in Chatham. Newer apartment developments near the station cater to commuters, while older terraces back onto these commercial streets. There are several primary schools serving the catchment. This is the most active part of Chatham, where the high street and station area draw people from across the Medway Towns.
