St Paul's Cathedral dominates everything around it, and this stretch from Ludgate Hill down to the Thames at Blackfriars is heavy on history and light on residents. The Millennium Bridge connects to Tate Modern on the south bank. Blackfriars station sits right on the river with views from the platform. There are a few residential pockets in newer developments along the riverfront and around Carter Lane, where you'll also find some of the City's better restaurants and wine bars. The Old Bailey is here too. It's a powerful part of London to walk through but living here means accepting that your neighbourhood is essentially a monument.
