Cranfield is a large village in mid-Bedfordshire, best known for Cranfield University and its associated technology park. The village itself has a proper centre with a pub, a primary school, a church, and a small parade of shops on the High Street. Housing is a mix of older brick cottages around the centre and a lot of newer development that has expanded the village significantly over the past couple of decades. It still feels like a village but it is busier than you might expect because of the university traffic. The surrounding countryside is flat Bedfordshire farmland, pleasant enough but nothing dramatic. You are driving for most things, Junction 13 of the M1 is close and Bedford is about 15 minutes by car. Families settle here for the space and relative quiet, and the university campus brings a slightly different feel compared to the surrounding villages.
