Swanscombe is a working-class Kent town that has seen better days. The high street is thin, with a few takeaways and a convenience store but nothing that would bring you here on purpose. Housing is mostly Victorian and Edwardian terraces in the older parts, with some post-war estates and newer infill. It is affordable, which is the main draw. Ebbsfleet International is walkable from some parts, giving surprisingly good access to central London. The Paramount theme park was planned for the nearby peninsula but that collapsed, and the London Resort project that replaced it has also stalled. Swanscombe Heritage Park on the marshes is a genuine local asset for walks.
