New Ash Green is one of those 1960s planned villages, designed by Span architects with modernist houses and shared green spaces. It looks nothing like the surrounding Kent countryside. The design is distinctive and it has a loyal following, though parts are looking dated now. There is a small parade of shops at the centre that covers basics. Ash village next door is a more traditional Kent hamlet with a pub and not much else. No station, so you are driving to Longfield or Meopham for trains, and relying on a car for most things.
