Watling occupies the western side of Gillingham, largely residential and originally developed to serve the personnel from RAF Gillingham before the base wound down. The housing mix reflects its military housing heritage, with semi-detached houses and a more orderly suburban layout than some parts of Gillingham. It's close enough to the station for a reasonable commute walk. Local shops serve the basics. It has a less rough-edge feel than Twydall but isn't as sought-after as the areas near the station or St Mary's Island. Solid and unremarkable.
