Dalston is loud, messy, and full of life. Kingsland High Street is a continuous stretch of Turkish restaurants, Vietnamese pho places, African fabric shops, and late-night bars. Ridley Road Market is one of London's last genuinely multicultural street markets. The nightlife along Kingsland Road, spilling south from the junction, put Dalston on the map for a generation of twenty-somethings. Dalston Junction and Dalston Kingsland Overground stations transformed access. The Gillett Square arts space and the Arcola Theatre give it cultural depth. Housing is a mix of council blocks, converted Victorians, and new-build flats going up on every available plot. It gentrified fast but still has its edge.
