Stamford Hill is the centre of Britain's largest Hasidic Jewish community. The High Road has kosher bakeries, bookshops, and grocery stores serving the community. The streets are lined with large Victorian houses, many adapted for the large families that are typical here. It has a quieter, more inward-looking feel than most of Hackney, with community life centred on synagogues and religious schools. Stamford Hill station on the Overground gives access into Liverpool Street. Non-Jewish residents also live here, and the area works well enough for anyone who wants affordable space close to Finsbury Park and the reservoirs.
